Memory cards offer a cost effective way into the smart card market especially when migrating from a magnetic stripe solution, with varying levels of memory storage to cope with the demands to meet.
Memory cards typically cannot manage file structures and have no processing power for management of the data on the card. With memory cards you read and write to an address on the card, these functions are sometimes protected or open depending on the card used. A slightly more advanced memory card will also offer levels of access control to the card and stored value.
Before develping a system using these cards you should check to see if the readers and/or terminals support the communication protocols of the chip.
